My preferred browser is Opera, booth because I really like it and because Opera has got a reputation for following the W3C recommendations.

I was somewhat surprised to see that http://ez.no/developer/reference_list/misc
isn't display properly with Opera 7.21, on
Mandrake 9.1, Qt library 3.1.1, KDE 3.1.0.
The problem I refer to is at the bottom of the page, where the link
Next >>
sits on top of an image. Anybody that can tell me what is causing this? It displays as it should booth in Konqueror and Mozilla 1.3.1 (Linux).

I am not a web-designer by profession, just an engineer that needs to design and maintain a few relatively simple sites, in a Linux environment. Having fiddled a bit with eZ I am starting to believe I could probably learn how to use it, in a relatively short time. However, before I make a decision I want to make sure the sites I design follow the W3C recommendations and that they are viewable also by older browsers. Anybody that could enlighten me a bit on this subject, or alternatively refer me to such information?

Thanks in advance.

Its probably a stylesheet problem. Each browser has its own quirks which need to be worked around to get a site rendering on all browsers.

I've just finished reading this book:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/exec/obidos/ASIN/0735712018/qid=1067501699/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_2_1/026-7636280-5293229

It addresses your issue of how to follow w3c recommendations. Its a good read too!

btw, if you think opera behaves oddly just try to use ie on a site you've designed ;)

Loke, as Paul mentioned this is definitely an issue with Opera's implementation of CSS. I tested it out with Opera 7 on Windows XP with the same results you mentioned. While I am not sure which is at fault (the browser or the styles), neither has to do with eZ publish itself. You can design your site to meet any of the W3C specs you want.

If you run into problems with CSS, some of us on the board should be able to help you out.
