Email link problem in pdfs

An email address in an article works perfectly well (i.e. it launches local mail client) but when trying to use the link from within the generated pdf the user is directed to the site and an un reachable page (because it contains the email address as part of the url). The mailto:"email address" has been prefixed by a load of ez url info.

How can i get the system to not do the ez url thing to an email address?
