Oook so I never seem to get anyone to say anything at all, not even to suggest I try posting elsewhere, but I have v4.1.1 and unless I add a Mainstory or 3 dynamic blocks, NONE of my content will display.

I've tried adding as objects front and backend, it just will NOT show. can someone tell me if there is something wrong with my installation or perhaps I'm missing a step, as the documentation is not very helpful either. I am also using eZFlow installed it WITH components. Someone help..PLEASE, even if it's to tell me somewhere else to look.

Thanks in advance

C

Cori,

Are any error messages appearing in debug output? Have you verified that the anonymous user has permission to read these objects? If you log in to the front end as admin do they appear?

No error message, just a blank empty space. And no it cannot be seen even if logged out. It in only places a line for the divider. It will only show content if it's 3 dynamic main article or sub page article. I also installed a second one on what will become the test site for new extensions and it has the same problem.

Cori,

You need to review eZ Publish (Text) Log Files (internal and external).

eZ Publish will attempt to write out error / warning / debug information (per httpd request) to both the apache error log (these can be in various locations on your disk, find for them ...) or ezpublish logs in the ez installation directory 'var/log/'.

You should consider finding and review the contents of each of these log files for related information. This should help you.

This will give you an indication as to why you have an error.

Also you should be using 4.1.2 (so remember to upgrade) after you fix what feels like hosting and configuration problems.

Cheers,
Heath

Hi there,

Thanks for your response, I was at the point of just trying to find work arounds. As far as upgrading I actually wrote a post about this in the suggestions forum. The instructions here on how to upgrade assumes everyone that comes here is a PhP guru. I certainly know more than your average web surfer but I am by no means as much of an expert as most are here. Everyone responds to everyone else here as though they are PhP guru's as well or simply doesn't respond at all.

So all of that is my long winded way of saying, I'd love to upgrade but after trying to install the 4.1.2 version (a fresh install mind you) on another server with it's own fresh new DB, it refused to work. I tried no less than 5 times and it just wouldn't work. Everytime I post asking for help, I get no response or run this command...run it where? LOL. The documentation here is also very complicated so some of my problems may be user error but hell if I know.

As I stated in that post, someone really need to simplify the documentation, like they are writing it for a 5 year old. The reason so many people use inferior CMSes to EZ is because of the very high and very technical learning curve here. If I understood the CMS better, I would definitely write them myself. Oh well, I suppose I will continue muddling through and try to at least get my main site up and running and play with the test one later. Once again thanks for trying to help at least.

Ok,

For those having this problem of content not displaying, please try this. Take note of what type of article you set it as when you're posting the content. This may be in the documentation but I haven't see it. And I'm sure several people have passed over it as well if it's there. There should be some sort of warning that pops up when trying to add content to a block in EZ flow that let's you know this so you don't think you have a bad installation.

In any case, your main and main page articles will not show in a block that is 3 item manual and so on. Make sure they are all posted as plain ole articles and that SHOULD help fix the problem.

Carry on

"If I understood the CMS better, I would definitely write them myself." Cori Roberts

I am writing my personal documentation about eZ Publish. The technical manual contains a reference chapter, but in fact the whole manual is a reference. It is useful for looking up something, but not to learn eZ Publish.

But do like me and don't give up. One day, we will understand what we need to know about eZ Publish. After all, it cannot be rocket science. ;-)

LOL!

Certainly seems like it when you have no one helping you...or people who speak and write like Rocket Scientists explaining to you. Once you get a good manual going, I'd love to see it, perhaps I can add to it.

Thanks!

@Cori: the "blocks" stuff you are using (or "ezflow frontpage class") are one of the most recent additions to the eZ Publish cms, and as such build on top of the existing content model, adding yet one layer of abstraction / complexity to the system.
You might be better off using simpler classes for your site.

While existing documentation is far from being complete or user-friendly, I think you will need to understand a little bit of the content model before you start trying using the system: classes, objects, nodes.

The http://ez.no/doc/ez_publish/technical_manual/4_0/concepts_and_basics section in the manual should help you out there.
Please feel free to post in the forums any specific questions you have after reading it. The manual might even be improved in the future with your feedback!
