I have created a new article class with an image, but I'd like to make the image thumbnail a little bit different, so I checked the image.ini, and the AliasList... Is this the best way to define new thumbnail size for new classes?

yes it is. But unless you just change an existing defenition in AliasList, you have to edit the templates which uses your new alias as well.
