I've been messing around with ez off and on (mostly off) for a couple of years now and have never ventured to do more than pick one of the default page designs and just add content into it. I'm looking to customize the design of the ezwebin_site_clean setup. I thought I had an understanding of the whole override system but I feel like I'm going in circles now.
On a few other posts and tutorials I have seen they recommend making a new folder, usually called my_site, within the /design directory and then copy the entire standard design contents into the my_site directory. Where I have trouble is which overrides to use to make sure that the my_site design is the one in use.
I do have a specific question, what is the purpose of having the empty ezwebin_site_clean folder inside of the /design directory?
I would greatly appreciate any and all help!

No not from what I have seen ....
I do remember this sitestyle article, http://share.ez.no/learn/ez-publish/how-to-skin-an-ez-publish-now-site
Also you should use the override system and not create a full copy of an existing design.
Rather add only the templates you need to customize the design to meet your needs.
In this case less is more. Creating a design extension to this end is not hard.

Thanks for the reply. I've read that article and it helped some, maybe I need to go over it again. Perhaps I'm headed the wrong way here and need to focus more on the CSS as I'm mostly concerned right now with the colors, font and other superficial changes to the site.

Hi Geoff,
I am sure you already went through this, but having a look at the documentation regarding the Design override system is always a very good start : http://doc.ez.no/eZ-Publish/Technical-manual/4.5/Templates/The-template-override-system
Let us know how things go,Cheers,
