Why are ezSystem's Forum Moderators not helping users out with this problem?

Hello!

Why will ezSystems not help its many users (or attempting to be users) and provide a "Formal/Official" workaround for this PHP-CGI problem? You know your software scripts best. Many of the folks who want to install and/or test ezPublish cannot get it to work because of this problem.

These forums are full of posters requesting help with this problem. ezSystem forum moderators always point posters to an outdated "patch" which is difficult to understand and has no installation instructions.

If you just indicate that the script will not run at maximum efficiency with the patch I believe webmasters will understand and accept this.

We need the help of the ezSystem people with this. Why can we not get it?

Please see the following thread,
http://ez.no/community/forum/install_configuration/page_just_refreshes_when_links_are_clicked/#msg49984

Also a search of the documentation for "cgi" returned the following,
http://ez.no/content/advancedsearch?SearchText=cgi&SubTreeArray=488&SearchButton=Search
None of the 4 results are helpful. Some even going to dead links.

ezSystems help us out.

Hi,
while i agree with you, that ez should make some official statement about "PGP as CGI" (and i'm sure, that they will), please note:
- ezPublish is free, but the developers need to earn some money. That means, that they will "optimize" their time in order to get some profit. That's just fair. That means, that they will improve their product and work for (paying) people with support contracts. There is one of the ezCrew, that is dedicated to "Community Communication" and i'm sure, that he will take notice of this discussion here.... on _monday_.
- As you noted, ezPublish is getting "famous" now, and this is good. But this also attracts a lot of new users (which is good, too). But that also means, that there is more need of support. And ezSystems cannot take care of each indivual new user.
- The forums are community forums. The moderators here are usually not ezPublish employees. All forum members usually try to help each other in their spare time.
- You ask for help about this. your first post was yesterday, saturday. Even if the employees work on the weekend, they will sure do some other things than replying to forum posts ;)
- I don't know, if or why the patch is "outdated", but as i said before, this is not a patch from ezSystems.

Well, after these "my 2 cents", a hint for you:
When you just want to try / test-install ezPublish, then I suggest, that you download and install a complete Install package for your system. This will install Apache with PHP, MySQL and ezPublish on your local PC.

So, if you have some spare time today, download the installer of your choice and give it a try.
If you insist on using PHP as a CGI, then you'd probably need to wait for some more hints here.

Regards,

Marco

PS: Just to be a bit nostalgic: When i tried to install ezPublish 2.0 or 2.1 on windows for testing developing some time (years?) ago, it took me days! Why? Because it was was not supported, was not documented, and there was not installer package or install wizard.

Hello!

Thank you for trying to help. But this is a hint for you. Please let the ezSystems people respond. You have left an extensive "lecture" that offers nothing in resolving the problem. If the ezSystems people could have offered some updated advice, forum users will have to go through your extensive "none helpful" post to get to it.

Yes the program is offered for free, but as I pointed out in my post that is appreciated. The problem is, many of the potential buyers cannot get the program to work because of the PHP-CGI situation.

Thos of use who would like to get the system to work on a PHP-CGI setup need ezSystems help in the creation of a work around. The like they point users to is outdated and unworkable by many. Also some of the links when a serch for "cgi" in the documentation goes to "dead" links.

Please, my post was for ezSystems people. I have nothing but praise for the program. Let them respond.

We will add support for CGI, however at this point we've got other things which has higher priority. We are aware of the problems with CGI, but we haven't had time to analyze what we need to change, and how we should do it, in order to support CGI.

The community could help out here to speed things up. I know about the patch for CGI here in the forum, but haven't tested it. How does this work? Are there any problems after applying the patch?

If we get a fully working patch which solves all problems with CGI it should be relatively quick for us to implement support for it ( without breaking normal operations ).

Thank you for your response.

There will be many webmasters eagerly waiting for the "CGI Solution". I and I am sure the other webmasters have nothing but respect for the hard work of the developers on this program.

The person who left the "patch" did not indicate where it should be placed nor what changes should be made on it if need be for each site. In short, there are no installation instructions. Also, from searching the forums it appears to be a patch or an earler version of ezPublish.

I know that some people have used the patch to deploy eZ publish sites. It would be a great start for us we the people who have tested it with the patch in CGI mode could come with their experience with this.
