My company has recently taken on a new client whose website is developed in eZ Publish. I am personally not familiar with it, and it seems that no one else here in South Africa is either!! The website is relatively small website for luxury guest house in Cape Town.

I need to take over the hosting of this website and am trying to find a hosting service provider who will host the site. I've contacted the best hosting company here in South Africa, Hetzner (who is also a German company) thinking that they would be able to help.

Hetzner have told me that eZ Publish is a non standard system and therefore cannot be hosted on a shared server.

I'm finding this so impossible to believe. So my questions are

1. What does eZ Publish need in order to be installed? Can someone help me with this or point me in the right direction.

2. Does anyone know of some good reliable hosting providers who would be able to host this site in a realistic shared hosting setup that wont cost me an arm and a leg or require me to set up a dedicated server with tech people in order to host this site.

3. Does anyone know of anyone in South Africa who supports eZ Publish?

If they think that standard system is few HTML and CSS files then eZ is for sure not a standard one :)

1. For requirements look here: http://ez.no/ezpublish/requirements

2. Hosting partners: http://ez.no/partners/worldwide_partners/(profile)/hosting

3. There is one in Mozambique: http://ez.no/partners/worldwide_partners/(country)/Mozambique

Ivo

Thank you so much for your reply. I am finding taking over the EZ site more difficult that I had hoped for. My developer is really having difficulty getting into the system and not being a techie I'm not sure if the reason is that he's not motivated or if the system is really that different from other CMS systems and that difficult.

Thank you again for your help and support!

Kind regards

Karen

Hi Karen,

Learning eZ Publish is usually a bit longer than getting acquainted with other solutions. This is mostly due to the furnished set of features available, making it a very thorough tool...yet having a flat learning curve in the first weeks. In other words : it is not time for you or your developer to give up, on the contrary.

Try out picking tutorials from the "Learn" section. Also, you should extensively use the online documentation and similar resources (check all right-column link on this page : http://share.ez.no/download-develop ).

Should the need for trainings become urgent, you should get in touch with eZ to benefit from professional training services, or, should remote training solutions not be an option, maybe rely on an almost-local partner : https://auth.ez.no/partners/worldwide_partners/(country)/Mozambique

Also, feel free to introduce your developer in here, that is also the place where she can get help! (see this page for more info on how to tune-in)

Cheers,

Hi Karen,

If you could be more specific about the problems you encounter, we may be able to help you. What errors do you get when trying to install the site?

You can install eZ publish on a shared hosting server, just check the requirements as Ivo pointed out.

Good luck!
