EZ Publish 4.0 Setup Wizard Isn't Completing

My web developer followed all instructions for the manual installation as listed here:

http://ez.no/doc/ez_publish/technical_manual/3_10/installation/normal_installation/installing_ez_publish_on_a_linux_unix_based_system

However, when weI enter the web address for the site (following those instructions) I get a blank screen. For some reason it isn't completing the setup wizard, and the software is simply not functioning.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

I have the same problem. No error codes. Just a blank page.

Is there any way to log / trace what`s happening in the final step when it starts to build the page?

Do you have PHP5 installed for eZ Publish 4.0? The article "Installing eZ publish on a Linux/UNIX based system" you pointed to mentions 3.10, which only works with PHP4.

Did you try system logs? Something must be very wrong if you can find nothing ;)

There isn't a technical manual for EZ 4.0 yet -- only the 3.10. However, another post indicated that they are virtually the same process.

Can you advise what is different? Perhaps there's something new that we're missing during the install process... Thanks!

Thanks for the suggestions. We uploaded the 5.0 version of PHP initially, but have reinstalled it and have the most current version of it now. It worked. Hopefully no problems during the setup... Thanks again!

Sorry, I have misunderstood, I thought you never saw setup wizard. In such case, nothing comes to my mind other than maybe space limit problem or something with file permissions...

You most probably need to set memory_limit and / or max_execution_time higher in php.ini.

Create a php file with only phpinfo(); in it to see where your php.ini file is and what settings you currently use.

If you put your rewrite rules in the apache config file instead of using .htaccess, copy the new rewrite rules in .htaccess_root to your apache config file. Otherwise, at various points in the install process you'll end up with a blank page. At least this was happening to me on 3.10 installations.

I had a very similar issues perviously (see http://ez.no/developer/forum/install_configuration/ez_4_0_0alpha2_setup_wizard_jumps_back_to_first_page ). In my case it was the Suhosin php-extension that was preventing the ez-installer to download the site-packages. What Suhosin does, among other things, is to disable url_fopen. So I think this is the reason in your case too, since your hosting provider has disabled allow_url_fopen. The eZ 4 installer seems to behave different than in previous versions.

So I think the only solution is to either aks you provider to allow url_fopen temporarly during installation or to manually install ez and import the plain-site (or whatever package) manually.

Best regards,

Patrick

ps.: after posting I realzied that I actually wanted to post in another thread on the same problem (see http://ez.no/developer/forum/install_configuration/ezpublish_4_0_does_not_finish_in_final_step/re_ezpublish_4_0_does_not_finish_in_final_step__2 ). But leave it here as well as it might be helpfull for this thread too.

Best regards,

Patrick
