eZ 3.5 New Release - Cannot get it to install. Permissions are correctly set, but it just won't get past System Check

Hi everyone. I am new to eZ Publish. I've experimented with quite a few OS CMS out there, my favourite so far being Typo3.

I've heard many good things about this CMS and its new bells and whistles that have intrigued me. So today I download myself a fresh copy of eZ Publish v3.5 that was realeased a few days ago and unzipped the distribution package onto my hd. I created a new DIR on my webserver and then uploaded the package into it.
Next I simply pointed the browser to mywebsite.com/newDIR/index.php and the install wizard popped up. So far, so good I thought. And that's where the fun ended. Unfortunately. :(

The System Check gave me the error reports and pointed out that there were some file permissions that need to be set before commencing.
So I changed the file permissions via FTP and set CHMODs to 777 for the directories that the wizard listed. After having done that, I proceeded by hitting the "NEXT" button in the wizard browser window.

However, it tells me that only SOME files have now been set correctly.
The directories that still do not have the correct permissions are the following:
-------------------------------------
The affected directories are: settings settings/siteaccess/admin
-------------------------------------

Eh ... so I went back and again checked whether the directories in question DO have the CHMOD settings set to 777. And they do.

Further down the wizard gives me additional info on how to overcome this problem (I am not listing the first option as I am on a shared server and do not have access to change the settings I think):

Alternative shell commands

If you don't have permissions to change the ownership you can try these commands.
--------------------------------------
cd /xx/htdocs/xxxxx/www.mysite.com/eZdir
chmod -R a+rwx settings settings/siteaccess/admin
----------------------------------------

Can anyone help me with this problem I'm having? Do I have to change more permissions somewhere that I've overlooked? Because the directories that are listed in the error message are set to 777. :(

Thank you in advance

Maleika

Those commands are for running SSH (shell access) - as you probably know.

Anyway, I have just done a fresh install of eZ 3.5, and have got it all working well. I'll go through the CHMOD of each directory. If you start at www.example.com/ezpublish/

- All folders are 755, except design, settings and var which are 777

- All scripts are 644.

- Everything (folders, scripts,etc..) under the 777 directories are also 777.

That's about it, although I would try getting SSH, it makes everything a lot simpler (you just have to cut and paste what the rror message says to you).

Hope that helps a bit,

Tim

Thanks Tim.

I've not chmodded the single files within the 777 dirs, so that might be the problem. I will go and do that and see if that helps.

Thanks a ton for your fast response.
