error parsing upgrade scripts

I'm trying to upgrade my site from ez 3.2-1 to the latest 3.4-1, and have managed to upgrade all the database files going through the upgrade paths.

However I am ahving a lot of trouble with the update scripts. Whenever I try to use one of them through SSH, it comes up with the error 'PHP error parsing......php on line 1"

This happens on every update script.

What am I doing wrong?

At the moment I am simply typing

usr/bin/php -c /home/amelody/public_html/update/common/scripts/addorderemail.php

into SSH and pressing enter

Is that right?

and

usr/bin/php -c /home/amelody/public_html/update/common/scripts/generateoverridesettings.php melodid

for the generate overridesettings.

But I always get the same error

Could this be because I have php as a CGI?

I think this is happening because the file has become unreadable by the apache user after the upgrade.

Check the permissions of the files and verify that the apache user has read access to the files.
