Do I need to set up and run my own webserver to run eZ?..or can I use a web-hotel with php and mysql?

Have a look here for the requirements http://ez.no/doc/ez_publish/technical_manual/3_6/installation/normal_installation/requirements_for_doing_a_normal_installation My opinion is that even if you find a share host able to hold your first install, over time, with a growing database, you will have some perf. trouble.
