Cache files can not be accessed - permission problem

Since the weekend, we get the following error message:

Could not open file 'var/mysite/cache/template/compiledcommon.php.24496db2e0029bfebd357409dccf0bf0' for writing, perhaps wrong permissions

as well as other cahce files with the same error message.

However, these cache files no NOT exist.

Even setting permissions to full (777) does not seem to help, and creating these files does not help either.

I have checked the forum, but safemode is disabled, so the only solution presented here does not seem to apply.

Any ideas?
