Hi, I tried to use the webbased installer of latest eZ publish 3 on a virtual server of my ISP. There is only one database and I have no rights to generate new ones, of course I can create tables ;) Therefor the installation stops where the database settings have to be made. There is no field for the database name. It seems to me that ezpublish insist on creating it's own database? Is there any place where I can add the "IF NOT EXIST" Statement? Any help would be welcome Sabine

Hi Sabine,
i think you have another problem. It's correct, that there is no field where to put in the database name, you only have to tell ezp the db server and the pw. Then the installation should continue without creating tables in any db. Later in the installation progress you come to a point, where you select different site designs. There you have to choose, which database ezp should use.
Is there any error msg, when the installation stops? To see, how the installation should normally go on, visit: http://www.ez.no/developer/ez_publish_3/documentation/installation/the_setup_wizard Greetz, Thomas

Or you should try manual install eZ publish... I tried several times and finally decided to do a clean install without installer... Very easy to do and it make you understand eZ publish better...

Hi Thomas, hi Aya, Is there any error msg, when the installation stops? No. A "500" internal server error. Before system check is normal, jumps directly to email section. When I try username@databasename (which I know is incorrect, but I tried everything) : "The database would not accept the connection.."

Very easy ?? You're kidding ;) I have no root, no shell access an i'm limited to what I can do with FTP. And... I think this is a benefit to every linux system :) No, serious: I'm not unwilling to learn and read something about a phpshell script http://www.gimpster.com/wiki/PhpShell - do you think that may work? I'm not shure I understand your question right? There are some tables in the database from other application, but nothing else concerning eZ. Sabine

Can this question be rephrased as 'Is it possible to install EZpub 3.2 on a linux based server with only an ftp acct and no root access? There is an interesting site called www.opensourcecms.com which lets you try before install a heap of open source cm systems. Their main criteria for them is that the CMS does not require root access. I have seen a few cms' change security so that only root priveleged installs are possible. Shame....
