Sounds like a db exception, take a look in var/log/error.log to see more details in a error line like this:

Connection error: Couldn't connect to database. Please try again later or inform the system administrator.
<actual_error_from_mysql>

hy and welcome to ez-community :-)

you probably encounter an error which has been solved and is documented in this forum.
First you could refer to the errorlog which has been (hopefully) written by the installer. See

ezpublish-dir/var/log/error.log

If there's nothing in it, check all the requirements of eZPublish. Those requirements can be found here: http://ez.no/ezpublish/requirements

Make sure you have

  • eZComponents installed (php framework)
  • php 5.2.x
  • mySQL and proper php-modules for it
  • php-memory-limit is set to 128mb or more
  • php-execution-timeout is set to 300seconds
  • the ezpublish var-directory is writeable by the webserver-user

More details are required. Are you using Windows or Linux as operating system?
Which version of php is installed? Which version of ezPublish? Did your system met the requirements?

Let us know!

Cheers,
Chris

Hi Christian Rößler

Thank you for your message

I followed those steps:

Setting up a MySQL database

Downloading eZ publish

Unpacking eZ publish

Uploading the ez in the server

After finishing I got an error message which is: “An unexpected error has occurred. Please contact the webmaster. “

I think the problem comes from the configuration.

Thank you very much,

My best regards.

This is a laste line of the file var/log/error.log :

Seems as André was right. The connection to the Database could not be established.
eZPublish needs a connection to the database to fetch all information to 'render' a website.

The errormessage shows, that you might have typed in 'HOST' as hostname of the mysql-Database. This is obviously wrong. Mostly 'localhost' or '127.0.0.1' are corrent values for a database host, but this might depend of your Hosting-Provider. Check those settings.

When editing ini-files make sure to clear the cache after doing so. Otherwise 'old' settings are still in use. Use the forum-search to find out, how to clear the cache. The most common way is to invoke a

php bin/php/ezcache --clear-all

on the shell. If you don't have shell/cli access to your server, you might try removing files found in the following directorys via an ftp-program. But this might fail.

var/cache
var/*/cache * = site, ezwebin_site, some other directory ...

If nothing works, try to remove everything and start all over. This might be the easiest way instead of making you ez clean again.

Cheers,

chris

Hi Christian Rößler

Thank you for your message

Yes the problem is the ez publisher need a connection to the database

But if you can tell me where are the files “ini” which I have to edit? For information I had edited those files :

1 -kickstart.ini-dist

2- settings/siteaccess/ administrer/site.ini.append.php

3-settings/siteaccess/site/site.ini.append.php

But I see the   same message

Thank you very much,

My best regards.

Hy,

here are the locations of database-relevant ini-files you need to check:

settings/override/site.ini.append.php
settings/siteaccess/xxxxx/site.ini.append.php

You did already find them.
After editing those files, did you clear the cache as I mentioned in my previous post?

When editing ini-files make sure to clear the cache after doing so. Otherwise 'old' settings are still in use. Use the forum-search to find out, how to clear the cache.

The kickstart.ini-dist is not relevant here.

Can you post the "DatabaseSettings" Section of your ini-files? Perhaps there is still an error in it.

... If in trouble, clear the cache ... :-)

Great! Nice to hear you got it working.

Now if you could be so kind to flag this thread as solved (see the upper left) ... This would be a super plus, as it may indicate that here is a solution and its not a dead/unsolved thread.

Regards,
Chris
