What Modules Do You Want to See?

Zinistry started a really good thread (http://ez.no/community/forum/suggestions/the_ez_vision_sharing_open_mind) concerning contributions by the eZ publish community as a whole, with a focus upon easy to implement modules. Specifically, instead of just uploading small pieces of code, entire modules could be uploaded to the Contributions section of the site, each of which would allow a developer to add functionality to their site with little extra development. This would allow developers to benefit from the work others have already created. Many of us trade bits and pieces already, if we can post a complete package then the community as a whole will benefit and each of us will have a broader selection of modules to work with.

As I think Zinistry's idea is a good one, I thought I would post this question: What modules do you want to see developed and posted to the site?

IMHO, I want a Forums module, with advanced features ;)

I'd like to see and to use a Calendar service. Could be nice and useful.

thanks

I think more packages will come with time, and more will be on pubsvn. At the moment contributions trickle through, but an effort from eZ to use it more with the community would definitely help. Not too long ago i made several comments/bug reports asking for eZ to use their extension system more, primarily to improve the system, but the effect would be to create GPL extensions on pubsvn. If contributions become widely used there should be moderators to help focus releases.

The packages are interesting but to be really useful we do need content object import/export functionality. Recently I integrated forums with an existing site, and found the only easy part was the installation of the forum templates. In fairness, i didn't use the class import routines but the content objects had to be manually recreated. The import functions need to be improved before people really start to share interesting bits from their sites.

Agree with Paul

Yes, without a more robust import and export algorithm, we can not exchange a whole extension: for the id of the class would be different, and all the templates files would be messed up

I would love to see a custom lists generator like MS Sharepoint team services. Users could then create their own lists with fields/columns of their own choosing (e.g. To Do, Contacts, Events, News, Photos, etc.). A process like:
1. Create list
2. Create fields (name, choose data type etc.)
3. Set permissions
4. Create views (choose fields, sorting, filtering, layout etc.)
5. Finish

Maybe a wizard could be used like the fantastic setup wizard!

It would also be a huge bonus if lists could be nestable, i.e. parent child tree structure. For example, you could have a company info list with a employee info sublist. A user could view the company info list in a table showing basic details (Company Name, Tel etc.) and then either click on the link to see a form with all the details, or click on a "+" symbol to see a drop down of an employee list. Then they click on the employee name to see the form with all the employee info.

Apologies if I took up too much space explaining all of this. You probably had the idea after the first line :-)

Cheers,

Fraser
