Out of the box in v2.2+ the search results display from oldest to newest. Obviously, I want to reverse this and have newest to oldest. I'm not all that sus on PHP, but am thinking it is somewhere in the search.php file in the user directory. There was this forum entry http://www.ez.no/community/forum/general/sorting_search_results_3_3_5 but no good to me on this version.
Does anyone know where I can edit this display setting?

Which version are you working with, 2.x or 3.x? If you are working with 2.x, then you should post your question in the 2.x forums located at http://ez.no/ez_publish/cms/ez_publish_2_2/forum as this forum is only for version 3.x.

Oh gee, I'm so sorry to have put you to so much trouble Alex, I would have posted the question in that forum, but we all know how the EZ developers avoid the 2.2 forums like the plague. At least I got a response here...(a naff one, but a response nonetheless)
PS, I have since answered my own question, so will leave EZ, as usual, disappointed.

Well, I wasn't trying to be mean, rather I was trying to point you to an area where you were more likely to find an answer. I had no idea that the 2.2 forums aren't helpful as I started using eZ publish with version 3.0. I am glad you found an answer to your question, but sorry that you have found the experience so frustrating. Good luck in your future endeavors.

Not being mean Alex, just frustrated. Thanks for your response.

No problem, I understand the frustration. There are times when getting an answer to a question on these boards takes much longer than it should.
