OE: does it work for you?

Hello,

I've searched the forums but haven't found any post about the problem I have with OE: paste from Word does not work (OE 2.0/eZ 3.5). The editor, after the parsing, erase everything (see thread http://ez.no/community/forum/general/oe_paste_from_word_problem).

I've tried to paste the same documents into the OE in the online demo at ez.no and the result is the same: everything is deleted.

Has anydbody encountered the same problem?

Thanks

Valerio

Valerio,

OE has limited support for cut and paste from word. This means that any formatting not supported in eZ publish will be stripped away on storage. Things like fonts, colors etc will be stripped away.

Headers, lists, paragraphs and tables are supported in most cases.

The problem is caused by MS Words special front styles for signs like " ' . However this is a common problem when pasting text from MS Word to the internet. But my guess is that there might be someway to turn this special formatting off in word and OO.

An alternative solution who'd be for EZ to include a "MS Word format" cleaner into OE like the one that comes with htmlarea. Or you cud use a desktop program like zapadoo( former wordcleaner). http://www.zapadoo.com/index.htm

Hi I am the creator of Word Cleaner. While I am happy that people are recommending my software its not too great when people suggest that you pirate it.

I am other small developers rely on our users being honest.

Piracy is a huge problem for small developers, many of use only sell a few copies of our software every month, we are not Microsoft. When people rip us off it deprives us of the funds we need to continue to develop our programs.

I know none of us are perfect (including me), but how would you feel if you where a web developer and someone nicked your code or site design?

The next time you use a pirate copy of a utility remember there is a real person who has put their time and effort into developing that program. All we ask is that you respect the value of other peoples work, be they a developer, designer, copywriter or whatever.

Brian,

We certainly do not want to advocate software piracy here, so I have removed the offending text. Sorry for not seeing it the first time around.

I'd also like to suggest that you move your excellent program to GPL ;)

Cheers,
Frederik

If the program was to be relicenced or dual licensed as Free Software under the GNU GPL or GNU LGPL would eZ systems be able to redistribute the package with eZ publish + eZ online editor <b>together</b>?

I remember (vaguely of) Alexander mentioning at times that only software copyrighted as eZ systems could be included into eZ publish.

Either way if Word Cleaner was relicensed under a dual license (like eZ publish or mysql is licensed), Brian would be able to continue to sell licenses, development, support to continue to fund the project as well as greatly open the product to a larger audience ( number of potential users ).

I speak from first hand experience, you can continue to earn lots of money developing your program as free software under the GNU GPL.

The number one change is just in how you earn your money. Save liberating the source code / package and providing the right for users to use under the terms of the GNU GPL (free) or your own proprietary non-free license (in the case of a dual licensed product like eZ publish), most of the changes are in the terminology used in your work.

lol,

(bookmarked), doesn't matter if it's legal or not. eZ systems has final say in what goes on in these forums mr.håvard

Regardless on your personal views, you become abusive every time this subject is brought up to you ....

This is at least the 2nd time you have been warned while I have been watching your activity on ez.no

Don't be rude, do not bring it up, it's not necessary or appreciated.
