I'm currently examining ways of gathering visitor feedback within eZ Publish. I've listed a number of methods I'm aware of. I'm interested in other methods and any experiences people have had with various methods.

I'll create summary of any feedback and create a documentation page..

Information Collector
-----------------------
+ Only some of the data types can be used as infocollectors
From : http://www.ez.no/community/bug_reports/ezselectiontype_php_information_collection
Only stringtype, texttype and optiontype are working as "information collectors".
+ Limited to email only
+ http://www.ez.no/community/forum/developer/where_is_information_collection_documentation
+ Site editor (given the correct permissions) can edit default values and additional non-form information

Anonymous user creates object
---------------------------------
+ Can use notification system to send email though this will depend on how often you run the runcronjobs.php file
+ Like guestbook http://www.ez.no/ez_publish/documentation/building_an_ez_publish_site/the_guestbook but info is not displayed on the site.
+ An empty object gets created every time the form page is accessed and these remain as drafts in the system. Because they belong to the Anonymous user they are number "cleaned out"

Form/process
---------------
+ http://www.ez.no/ez_publish/documentation/customization/components/form_processing
+ This is SPAM prone. The email gets sent to the form variable MailSendFrom (if it exists). Is this useful at all because of this?
+ Limited to email

Cheers

I think you need to concentrate on how you're going to use the feedback. Will it be displayed on the site? In which case use object creation method. Will it just be something you'll want to read through and show off when somebody says something nice, but not be too bothered about keeping? In which case use information collector. I would try to avoid form/process because, as you pointed out, it's vulnerable to abuse.

Another thing to bear in mind that the creation of an object is a handy way to keep all the feedback in one place, you could probably also set up an RSS feed to export it.

Thanks for the feedback James.

I don't have a specific use for this at the moment that is why I'm trying to be generic. I'm trying to set some guidelines for eZ Publish developers (specifically the ones where I work) as to what is the best method to use for specific circumstances.

Why are there three methods? How do they work and what are the features/pros and cons of each one?

While I've created a number of sites that use the first two methods I'm interested in other developers experiences with these methods.

Cheers
Bruce
