Yes, we will need custom content types to ensure that our website is well-structured, easy to manage, and scalable. Using eZ Publish, we can create tailored content types that match the specific needs of our business. Here’s a breakdown:

Product Listings

Each product will have its own structured content type with fields such as name, description, price, SKU, images, specifications, and optional downloadable resources.

This ensures that products are displayed consistently across the website, and content managers can easily add or update products without affecting the design.

We can also set up custom categories, tags, and filters for easy product search and navigation.

Event Pages

Events like webinars, workshops, or conferences will have a dedicated content type.

Fields can include event title, description, start and end dates, location, registration links, and speaker information.

eZ Publish allows scheduled publishing, so events can go live automatically when needed, and past events can be archived.

Portfolio / Case Studies

For showcasing projects or case studies, we can have a content type with project title, client name, project description, images, videos, and client testimonials.

This will allow filtering by category, type of work, or client, making it easy for visitors to explore our portfolio.

Benefits of Custom Content Types in eZ Publish

Consistency: Every piece of content follows a structured format, keeping the site organized and professional.

Efficiency: Content managers can quickly create, edit, and publish content without needing technical knowledge.

Scalability: Adding new types or modifying existing ones is simple as the business grows.

Automation: We can implement workflows, permissions, and scheduled publishing for smooth content management.

Conclusion: Custom content types will make the website more organized, user-friendly, and future-proof. By leveraging eZ Publish’s flexibility, we ensure the website can evolve as the business grows, while keeping content management simple for our team.

The simple truth here and the general reality is that smarter developers start using the folder (content class type) for everything as a standard of behavior. It's just what we start doing first to learn.

Quickly for more realistic page content design and templating usage you find that using or leveraging the power of custom made content classes (even renamed copies of the folder class content type + extra custom attributes) to ensure the templates get a rich set of unique data points quickly and effectively without embedding hard-coded content in templates (as much as possible) instead as a general rule only call custom content from objects attributes.

None of these rules are set in stone per say but ...

In general if you want to scale and become effective with Exponential and edit page content faster you will use custom content classes / types to represent your content uniquely from within the core design of Exponential.

Happy Hacking!
