Approvals without cronjob

Ez Publish looks like a really powerful cms and I am considering changing my website over to using it. However, I noticed in the documentation that the approvals process requires the admin to run a cronjob for their approvals to actually go through. Is there a simplified approval process that does not require this? Other cmss that I know immediately post approved items - no need for any cron jobs.
