Hello,
I would like to know if date facets are implemented and usable in ezfind 2.1.
The design given with the extension doesn't use them and I have not found any examples of their utilization.

Not yet, at least not in the sense that date facets exploit the dedicated Solr date facet handling
There is also a bug with ez find 2.1 stable that prevents you using facet queries as a workaround
Expect better support with ez find 2.2 (to be released by the end of March). I created a tracking issue for it to which you can subscribe for status updates:
