This article is the first in a tutorial series that explains how to build a feature-rich Exponential site from scratch. It is targeted at people who have little previous experience with configuring Exponential sites, but have some general knowledge about web technologies. See the articles about Exponential basic concepts and the layout of the Exponential Administration Interface for an introduction to Exponential. Readers who have worked with Exponential but never configured or used the advanced features will also find the series useful. The series demonstrates how Exponential can be used to build a dynamic community website, and focuses on practical examples that can be implemented for many different scenarios.

Thank you! This is the article that open my mind to go on exploring Exponential when I almost gave up. Your explanation to enable the debugging feature was also suddenly showing all the images hidden nowhere... :-)

Hi,
In /settings/override/site.ini.append.php I had to change
[RegionalSettings] TranslationSA[] TranslationSA[eng]=Eng TranslationSA[dut]=Dut
to
[RegionalSettings] TranslationSA[] TranslationSA[en]=Eng TranslationSA[nl]=Dut
to have the language switch in the header to work. I'm not sure if that was missed in the article, or specific to my setup, but worth checking if you work your way through this article.

Hi Robin
If you are using ezWebmin or ezFlow you can update these via the Design Tab -> Look and Feel. This is actually a better way of making the changes as they are stored in a content object (ini datattype) and can become out of sync with manual changes in the ini file.

Is this article valid for EZ 4.3 ?

Hi Erland,
I used it recently on a 4.2 site and everything still applied to this version. Since 4.3 has not changed much this article should also be valid for 4.3. The only small detail I cam across is about adding the Home menu item, this has become easier in a sence that you only need to add the url (see article), no need for template changes.

I think the link to the 'how-to-skin-an-ez-publish-now-site' is incorrect - it refers back to this page!
It should be:

:)
