Just few remarks on otherwise great summary:

  • the view cache is also dependent on the view parameters
  • cache-block can be used in any template, not just in pagelayout

Thanks Ivo for your feedback, I added view parameters in the list. As for the cache-blocks indeed they can be used in other templates but as usually the viewcache handles caching of "non layout" templates it is mainly used in pagelayout (and it's included templates).

Just a few more notes...

The view cache by default is not is generated per user, but all the users that have the same set of policies get the same view cache. This can be changed via ini setting, see here:
