maybe something related to charset settings.
I got a similar error, hacked some charset files to solve it.
I wonder whether u can use a predefined class containing a XML text field.

Sorry ... but what do u mean with this :
'hacked some charset files to solve it'

php files, such as lib/ezi18n/classes/ezcharsetinfo.php and serveral other ones in the same directory
my problem is coursed by unsupport charset: I mean Chinese charset ;), and that courses the dom processor misfunction.
u can setup up a new eZ site from scratch for experimental purpose, do not change any other ini setting beyond the ones specified in the setup guide. Then try to find out whether ur problem exists.
good luck

do not forget to enable debug option in site.ini.append.php, for the debug output always give useful clues

btw ... after install is work fine, but after geting the last svn I got this error !
Sunday 20 July 2003 5:31:14 am
line_1497: if ( $dom )$node =& $dom->elementsByName( "section" );
// Fetch all links and cache the url's$links =& $dom->elementsByName( "link" );
this must be :
if ( $dom ) {$node =& $dom->elementsByName( "section" );
// Fetch all links and cache the url's $links =& $dom->elementsByName( "link" );}
the error is coz of $dom = null !

I see, u r living on the edge, so u r on ur own ;)
that's must be the CVS version's problem
and u just found out where the problem is, so trace back from that line (not look forward from that point)
I do not use CVS, so I can not stand with you ;)
but I think the mostly likely error parts are in the init process of the $dom, so trace back and see

this the solution (as I think), but i make it i`ll lose the next svn upgrade, better to wait for ezp team !
