Sort(query) by link - Please help

Hi all!

I have one problem and don't know how to solve it.
I need address book of employees. I have managed to create users (600) and managed to display them by name (ASC).
Now I would like to have on top of page letters e.g. A B C D E ... like links and when I click on it I should have list of employees with name that begins with selected letter.

I suppose that could be accomplished by some kind of SQL query but don't know how to make that.
I have been looking into ezsearch class but couldn’t figure out how to do it.

Please help me on this subject!
