Setting Limit outside {let ...fetch..}

It's possbile to set a limit in the fetch, but I need to fetch more content than shall be viewed to manipulate stuff...the question now is:"How can I set a view limit in listing the objects?" ...in {attribute_view_gui attribute=$article:item.name (is limit possible here?)}, or in {$article:item.... limit 3}??
