Sending generated .pdf via sendmail

Hi,
I need a extension which fetches the output from /content/pdf/ and
attach this file to a mail when a user registers.

As far as I know there is no standard ez function to attach files to a mail when using sendmail.
Has anybody done something like that before or some hints for me?
