How to get the value from a select datatype?

Hello,

I'm writing my own workflow for shipping in our shop.
Now I need the value of a shopuser attribute.

I know how to get the User, I get the contentobject and the contentobjectattribute Object.

attribute( 'content' ) gives me the "value" of the Selected Field, but I need the "description".

How do I get this? In witch database Table is it stored???

Can someone help me???
